Privacy Policy
CampusAI is run by JayList CampusAI, based in Accra, Ghana. This policy explains what we collect when you use the CampusAI website and apps, why we collect it, who helps us process it, and the choices you have. We handle personal data in line with Ghana’s Data Protection Act, 2012 (Act 843).
What we collect
Your account
Your name, email address and password. We store the password only as a secure hash; nobody at CampusAI can read it.
Your profile, if you fill it in
Your school, faculty, department, programme, level, hall, student ID, GPA, bio, interests, skills, links to other profiles, and profile and cover photos. All of these are optional. If you verify with your school email address, we keep that address too.
Your plan
The reminders, study blocks and events you add to your timetable, and which kinds of notification you want.
What you study with
The lecture slides, PDFs, notes, links and recordings you upload; the summaries, flashcards and quizzes Jay makes from them; the questions you ask Jay with its answers; and the answers you write in timed mock exams, with Jay’s marks and feedback on them.
Community and career
Posts, replies and likes in the campus feed, the groups you join, forum threads and replies, your messages, and the CV details and applications you create on the career pages.
Payments
Payments are processed by Paystack. We never see or store your full card number or Mobile Money PIN. We keep a record of each payment: its reference, amount, plan, the method (card or Mobile Money) and whether it succeeded. When you pay by card, we keep Paystack’s token for the card with its brand, last four digits and expiry date, so Scholar can renew; remove the card in Settings and we forget it. When you pay with Mobile Money, we keep the network and number so renewing Scholar is filled in for you.
Other things you send us
Feedback and bug reports (with your device type, operating system and app version), and your email address if you join the app waitlist.
Technical data
Your IP address is used briefly to limit repeated sign-in and payment attempts and to protect the service from abuse.
How you use CampusAI
So we can see which parts of CampusAI help and which don’t, the web app records the screens you open and a few key actions, such as uploading a lecture, asking Jay, reviewing flashcards or sitting a mock, along with whether you were on a phone or a computer and, once per visit, which site sent you here. We never record what you type, your IP address or your device details this way. If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, nothing is recorded at all. Our own staff see this only as counts and trends.
Cookies and storage
We don’t use advertising cookies or third-party analytics. When you sign in on the web, your browser’s local storage keeps the tokens that keep you signed in, and a few display choices such as your theme. Signing out removes the tokens. The CGPA calculator keeps its figures in your browser only; they never reach us.
How we use it
- To run your account and the study tools you ask for.
- To match you with internships and national service openings, if you use the career pages.
- To take payments and apply the plan you bought.
- To send emails you need, such as password resets, and replies to your feedback.
- To keep CampusAI secure and to fix problems.
We don’t sell your personal data, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Who processes it for us
We use a small number of service providers, each only for the job below:
- Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI generates summaries, flashcards, quizzes and answers. The text of your materials, your questions, your mock exam answers and the study details Jay uses (your courses, timetable, reminders and uploads) are sent to whichever of them we use for this. OpenAI also transcribes recorded lectures, so audio you upload is sent to OpenAI. Under both companies’ terms for their APIs, this content isn’t used to train their models by default.
- Amazon Web Services stores the files you upload.
- Paystack processes payments.
- Our email provider delivers account emails.
- Our hosting provider runs the servers and database.
Some of these providers process data outside Ghana. We only use providers that protect it to a standard comparable to Act 843.
What other people can see
Your profile page is public by default: anyone with its link can see your name, programme, level, school, photo, bio, skills, interests and the CV you build, but not your email address, GPA, student ID or hall. You can make it private in Settings, under Privacy and data. Feed posts, replies, groups and forum threads are visible to students at your school, and group chats to the group’s members. Your uploads, your conversations with Jay, your timetable plan and your payments are private to you.
How long we keep it
We keep your data while your account is open. When you delete your account (in Settings, under Privacy and data) or ask us to, we delete your profile, uploads, study history, posts and messages. We keep payment records for as long as tax and accounting law requires, and bug reports without your name attached.
Your rights
You can download a copy of your data and delete your account yourself in Settings, under Privacy and data. You can also ask to see the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop us using it for a particular purpose. Email privacy@campusai.com.gh from the address on your account and we’ll reply within 30 days. If you’re unhappy with our answer, you can complain to the Data Protection Commission of Ghana.
Security
Traffic to CampusAI is encrypted. Passwords are hashed, sign-in tokens expire within minutes and are renewed securely, and password-reset links work once and expire after an hour. Changing your password signs out your other devices.
Age
CampusAI is for students and staff at tertiary institutions. We don’t knowingly collect data from children under 16.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we’ll tell you by email or in the app before the change applies.
